Stuck Between a Rock and a Salt.

We’ve been here several times, and no matter what time of year, time of month, or time of day — it’s always been a super delish experience.  To the point that as soon as the meal is finished, we think about the next soonest time possible that we can come back to re-relish it.

Technically a restaurant-and-hostel, I am only familiar with the resto part.

Setúbal — located only 40 min from Lisbon along the coast with some of the most beautiful beaches in the country — is currently undergoing a “hipsterization”, and De Pedra e Sal (of rock and salt) is no exception.  So much so that the first time that we ate there, we almost felt like we were somewhere in Brooklyn.

The interior is heavy on black, wood, greenery… and then some more black and wood. All of the main courses are served on a thick slab or slate, and the portion sizes are American-style generous. The kitchen cooks directly behind you in the front of the house in an open-concept kitchen space, while the super friendly staff always makes sure your glass is (half) full.
