Folegandros is one of the most unique of the Cyclades islands, mostly due to its plunging cliffs and spectacular views.  I have been to this island many times and have stayed at several of the hotels, but by far my favourite is the Hotel Castro.  Dating back to 1212 (yes, you read that correctly), this simple and modest hotel has only a handful of small rooms with views to die for.  Not all rooms have their own balcony, which isn’t a problem because there is a shared rooftop terrace for all guests to enjoy. And all of this is at a bargain!  Oh and p.s. – it is named after the Castro Fort, not after you-know-who.
